Install Database Drivers

  • You will need both Oracle and MySQL drivers even if you are only using one. They are both referenced in the Eclipse classpath.
  • Obtain the Oracle driver for your version of the database. The file name should be ojdbc14.jar.
  • Obtain the 5.0.5 version of the MySQL Connector/J JDBC driver. The file name should be mysql-connector-java-5.0.5-bin.jar.
  • Put both drivers in /java/drivers

Install & Configure Eclipse

  • Select "Preferences..." from the "Window" menu in Eclipse
  • Select General --> Compare/Patch": you may want to check "Ignore white space" here
  • Select General --> Workspace": check "Refresh automatically"
  • Select Ant --> Runtime
    • Click "Restore Defaults"
    • Select "Ant Home Entries" on the "Classpath" tab, click "Add External JARs...", select the junit-3.8.1.jar that you put in your ant/lib directory, and click "Open"
    • Click "Add Task..." on the "Tasks" tab, enter "junit" for the "Name", select the entry ending in plugins\org.apache.ant_1.6.5\lib\ant-junit.jar for the "Location", expand the folder tree to /org/apache/tools/ant/taskdefs/optional/junit and select the junit folder, select JUnitTask.class from the class list on the right, and click OK
    • Repeat the steps in the bullet above, but use "junitreport" for the "Name" and select XMLResultAggregator.class from the class list this time
  • Select Java --> Build Path --> Classpath Variables:
    • Create (or edit) TOMCAT_LIB_HOME. Enter the path to your tomcat installation's "common/lib" for the "Path", and click "OK"
    • Create (or edit) DRIVERS_DIRECTORY. Enter "/java/drivers" for the "Path", and click "OK"
  • Select Java --> Installed JREs
    • If you don't already have a JRE with a "Location" that's the same as your JAVA_HOME system variable, click the "Add..." button, enter "jdk15" for the "Name", enter the appropriate path (as you did for JAVA_HOME) for the "JRE Home Directory", and click "OK"
    • Paste "-Xms40m -Xmx1024m -XX:MaxPermSize=128m" into the "Default VM Arguments" textbox, and click "OK"
    • Make sure the jdk15 is checked (and therefore the default)
  • Click "OK" to exit "Preferences"

Import Projects

  • Select "Import" from the "File" menu in Eclipse.
  • Select "Existing Projects into Workspace" and click "Next >".
  • Specify the the financial-system directory from the distribution as the root directory.
  • Click "Finish".
