Agenda

  1. Roll-call - Eric Westfall
  2. Follow-up on Action Items from Last Meeting - February 8, 2010 - Collaboration Meeting
  3. Announcement - Tom Bradford is the new Kuali Rice Lead Technical Architect
  4. Project update - Eric Westfall
    • 1.0.2
    • 1.1.0
      • JPA
  5. Mike Oatley - I have a general workflow question for the meeting. I was wondering how other schools handle the following routing scenarios:
    1. What do you base most of your routing scenarios on?
      • organization chart ( ie: route to manger->director/dept head->dean->executive)?
      • some other attribute?
    2. For routing through the organization, how do you handle people with multiple roles on your client applications (maybe they report to two different departments, or maybe they are requesting something that requires approval from another area)?
      • Do you provide a default, and then let them override with a select list?
      • Do you require them to input an adhoc route node via the engine or some other interface in addition to the default?
      • Some other method?
      • Does KNS offer something in the framework to deal with this?
  6. Discussion on Load Testing and capacity planning for Kuali Rice implementation - Eric
    • Possible creation of a set of "benchmark" tests to test cross-platform?
  7. Additional agenda items?
  8. Future meetings topics?

Action Items:

  1. Put together the milestones, what they will contain and the target dates
    • publish to the Kuali Rice site as well as announcing to the rice collab mailing list

Mike Oatley - I have a general workflow question for the meeting. I was wondering how other schools handle the following routing scenarios:

  1. pre-rice so don't have kim
  • a lot of our routing we're basing on our org tree
  • a lot of our docs need approval from a manager
  • in a lot of scenarios, we are finding that the default we have is not where it should be going
  • wonder what other schools are doing with regard to that routing
  • James - but if you do adhoc, you need to skip the manager in that case?
    • yes
  • Eric - you can use the return to previous to return to the initiator if it goes to the wrong place
  • Dirk - not sure if this will help, but we had some routing that was so complex that it couldn't be modeled in the rule system

Discussion on Load Testing and capacity planning for Kuali Rice implementation

  • Eric - who has done load testing
  • Warren - i have
    • Eric - how have you approached it?
  • Warren - testing the web service portion of the workflow
    • our timekeeping application provides two principal ids of who to route to
    • the workflow engine is generating requests to those
    • if one request at a time, takes about 1 second
    • at 25 requests per time (25 threads within 1 second), takes about 6 seconds
    • we customized it a little, to deal with LDAP
  • What constituts a request?

Dirk - we've been working with a Solaris environment doing testing on KFS

  • some people did some performance testing and we continue to see pretty bad performance on Solaris
  • system seems to run much faster on anything else, but mostly based on empircal evidence
Warren - our admin says file system is a little bit slower
    • using the same database server, behind the same server

Mohammed -

  • That woudl be helpful
    Wes Price -
  • would be interested in seeing those

Chris - does anyone use any other tools
